Bulimic. Binge Eater. Generalized Anxiety Disorder. 

That's how any psychiatrist would've labeled my charts for the first years of my life.


I used food as a tool to cope with the inner turmoil of not knowing who I was. I hated myself and my body--and I ate to compensate.

Now, I've gone through the burning fires of hell in my journey through self-loathing, and not for anything? I'm glad that I did.

These diagnoses have put me through some of my most greatest battles and have also been some of my most significant teachers.

If it weren't for the life I lived I wouldn't be able to be the writer and spiritual teacher that I am today.

So I have zero hate for my past. 

But damn that shit hurt!

If you're living in the middle of constant feelings and chaotic emotions, the inability to still yourself or simply feel ok--then you know what I'm talking about.

Anxiety sucks.

But you have the opportunity to evolve. And when I say evolve? I mean that shit.

You can go from who you are now-- a constant emotional bundle of nerves and agitation to Thich Nhat Hanh (one of the most famous Buddhist monks alive right now).

Peaceful, serene, and in love with life.

But it isn't going to be easy.

I'm not going to cover it in 100% certified organic maple syrup. It's gonna take work.  

Tons of constant self-reflection, self-love, self-acceptance and just a pure honest want and belief that you deserve to live supernaturally.

Without medications--without constant self-harm.

Consistently connected and one--with the spirit that you are.

It ain't gonna be easy honey. But I promise you--if you put in the work, you're going to overcome your body and your emotions and rise higher.

The Path




It's probably no surprise to you since you were pulled to reading this article--mindfulness is the way.

It wasn't until I started meditating and practicing mindfulness that healing began to occur.

Bit by bit, with every moment in which I chose to be still, the anxiety began unraveling itself.

Until finally, I was free.

The First Step To Healing 

The first step to healing your anxiety is commitment. You have got to be ready to fight your way to healing. Seriously. Like I said, this isn't going to be a quick fix--get a massage and life is good kind of thing. It's going to take consistent practice.

Are you ready to commit to your own healing? You're going to commit to natural healing through connection to your source, in order to overcome.

And believe me, you will be the minority. Most people want the end result, but don't want to do the work that's required to get there.

So if you're ready, you can move on to the practice.

So it goes without saying, but I'm super excited that you're still here! I'm going to share a list of my topnotch mindfulness exercises that I've never shared with anyone before. Literally, this is the first time I'm opening my secret stash. These are the same ones that I used for many years, and still do when I find myself experiencing mental or emotional pain.

Now they aren't conventional. You have to learn to shift into presence, or source in order to overcome mental disorder. These are going to seem weird at first, but they are extremely effective. I'll explain more as we go on.

But before we do, I need to make sure you know something.  And you may not like it.

You ready?

You're going to have to meditate every single day on top of practicing these mindfulness exercises for your anxiety.

Mindfulness is amazing, but, you need a consistent practice of allowing yourself to Flow, in order to really build the foundation within yourself to become mindful.

Flow: Experience, accept and let go of your thoughts and your emotions. 

Will these exercises work without meditation? Yes. They are effective.

BUT. You're going to take a hell of a lot longer healing your anxiety if you don't meditate. It's that simple.

Meditation has been my life since I started healing. It still is. It is to me, the magic elixir to emotional wellness.

Meditation is connecting to your source.

Connecting to your source is how you will overcome anything that you face in life.

Because you are source. And pain is nothing more than a separation from that.

Ok. So I needed to share that before we move into the exercises. Now if you're not meditating already, I recommend an amazing program for meditation. I'll share that resource at the end of this article.

Mindfulness

Before you start practicing let me give you a quick background on what mindfulness is.

Mindfulness is the simple act of shifting into being.

When you are being mindful, you are being spirit.

Spirit is constant peace, constant love. Constant stillness.

To become mindful is to shift into these states of being. It's to shift into your sacred Self.

Being mindful though chaotic feelings and thoughts, allow for a healing to occur. It allows for these thoughts and emotions, and feelings to pass. Much like using Drano in a clogged pipe--being mindful releases the hold these lower states have within yourself.

These exercises will help you to shift into your Self so that you can allow the negative states to pass.

Mindfulness Exercises For Anxiety

1. Become an observer.  Watch your life as you would a movie. You can do this by pretending that you are physically outside of yourself. Go into scientist mode in your imagination and picture yourself watching yourself as a scientist would taking data of animals in the rainforest. They never interfere. They stand by steadily, watching. Become that person. Watch yourself. Watch your emotions. Practice this often.

2. Pretend. Make pretend that you are one of your favorite gurus. Ask yourself, what would, ... do? How would ... act? My favorite guru that often came into my mind was Jesus. I grew up a Catholic reading the Bible. I wanted to be as close to the way Jesus was always. Choose a person that you admire. Someone that is peaceful and serene. Loving. Constantly uplifted. And then, become that. Make pretend as you did when you were a kid. Settle into the feeling of that person, or diety. Practice this mindfulness exercise often. In time and practice, you will see huge results.

3. Breath into your heart chakra. (Learn more about your chakras here.) Make pretend that there is an airway in your heart space and that you're breathing through your heart center. Focus on that area and breathe through it. You can touch your heart if it makes it easier. This will not only anchor you into stillness, but it will expand the love within yourself and your connection to the divine. Practice this often.
